Virginia B. Toulmin has devoted her life to helping others.

Our History

Virginia B. Toulmin devoted her life to others. Her earliest jobs instilled a passion for the arts and public health. As an usher at the St. Louis Symphony, she recognized the beauty of music and carried that with her throughout her life. As a nurse, working in some of the most underserved neighborhoods of St. Louis, Virginia felt pulled to support vulnerable communities.

She continued to lead a varied and successful career, ultimately becoming CEO of Central Pharmaceuticals, at a time when few women held such roles. Despite great personal losses, Virginia was a pillar of support for so many. During her lifetime, she contributed to Georgetown University Medical Center, Sarasota Symphony, as well as orphanages in Thailand and the Dominican Republic.

Virginia sat on the boards of Georgetown University, Fun for Children of Americas, and Planned Parenthood. In 2004, she was named Philanthropist of the Year in Sarasota. Her legacy lives on through the generous contributions made by Virginia B. Toulmin Foundation.

Meet Virginia

Virginia’s legacy lives on through the generous contributions made through the Virginia B. Toulmin Foundation.

While we recognize there are countless organizations working across these priorities, we are not able to support all of them and with limited staff bandwidth, we are unable to respond to every inquire. Our small staff is deeply embedded in the communities in which we work and looks to establish long-term, meaningful partnerships with all organizations we fund. As such, our funding is by invitation only and we do not accept unsolicited requests for support.
